Production
Stages for the production
Development > pre production > production > post production
Development
In development a project producer finds a story e.g play, book, film or a true story. They then pair with a writer to write a synopsis. A step up line will be developed briefly decided through each paragraphs, dialogue and stage directions to set up the film.
Pre Production
In pre production every step of the film creation is carefully designed and planned. A production office is the administrative office responsible for managing films. A story board is used to create the visual idea's of what camera shots and the effects to what is going on with the creation of the film.
The production of budget is finalized and the production of insurance is organized.
Production
A film crew is to get the story board that is completed and film the shots to high standards, where the actors and directors are involved to film the whole story.
Post Production
Finally the video is edited and it is created with other cuts of the video's to create a whole story. Music tracks are composed along with the voice overs and many more recordings. The lighting and the visual effects of text are usually added in to the video.
Distributions
Film Distribution is the film that is available to the audiences for them to get easy access to watch the film when it gets released through the use of a film distributor.
There are several ways to do this:
Standard releases
Cinema > DVD > view > Television
Simultaneous Releases
When the film is made available with lots of multiple media's all at the same time rather than a standard release that goes in order.
Straight to video or TV release
This is when it's released from the editing studio straight to DVDs or TV companies to internet.
Film distributors decides to go for a release on one weekend so that they have the time to release the film on multiple media's to raise awareness for more audiences to watch different varieties of multiple media.
Marketing
Examples of Marketing:
-Trailers
-Internet- films are advertised through social networking such as Twitter, Facebook, Youtube.
-Bus Ads
-Bill boards
- Food packaging
-magazines/news paper
-Radio
-Television
-Devices (Smart phones and laptop)
-Posters
-Text messages
-Friends and Families
-Merchandises
-Competitions
-Promotional tours
Films are sold to different audiences through online renting and monthly paid to watch movies online. DVDs are still around but they do not sell out as much due to the dominance of internet with free online movies to access to.
Exhibitions
Audiences today have free access to internet to watch a film, this enables them to explore more films through devices such as smart phones, laptops and tablets for them to recommend to family and friends from the social networking websites e.g Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The opposition for this to see films is through the cinema, the majority of the audiences are most likely to go see a movie on a weekend due to the fact that the weekdays are working days for the elder audiences. About 41.7% of the population in Britain prefer to watch a film in the cinema on a weekend in comparison to 29.3 % on weekdays. Audiences today prefer to watch a film online, It is free and easier to access online with a much more broader ways to watch varieties of movies at any time whereas for cinema's the price of the tickets may turn the amount of audiences down and the timing for the cinema may be an issue for the audiences to go see the cinema in contrast to online.
In order to engage audiences to watch films through marketing such as trailers to motivate the audience to watch the movies.Marketing gives a visual idea of the movies awareness for the audiences to recognize the films for more audiences to recommend the film to their surroundings. Genre is the key to engaging many audiences, the range of genres such as action, comedy and etc may influence the audiences that are keen to the specific genre's. The actors/ celebrities may also engage the audiences to watch the film, The majority of audiences like to watch many actors for e.g Johny Depp or Robert downey Jr who are most popular due to their charisma, acting skills and the way the media has represent them to influence the audience. The idea of the 'Film value chain' is about the whole creation of the movie through a small chain such as Development > Financing > Pre sales > Production > Sales and Licensing > Distribution > Exploitation. Or the shorter version of the whole process of film chain ( Development > pre production > production > post production).
