Film industry (distribution): youssof mallah

Definition (in film industry):Distribution of a movie in the film industry is the process through which a movie is made available to be watched or consumed by the audience by the distributor.

Distribution in the film making process is the last stage of the procedure there are 5 main ways in which a movie can be distributed the most known ones are:
standard release
simultaneous release
straight to video release
internet release

Standard release: this type of release is the most common type. It is managed by a business model called "release windows" this strategy is used for keeping different instances from conflicting between each other this allows the movie to benefit from different markets such as cinema, home-video, TV, internet etc at different times
the usual way in which standard release works is the film is first released in cinemas then after 3-4 months it is released on DVD for purchase then after a few more months the film is released on pay-TV or video on demand services such as 'Love Film'  or 'Netflix' approximately two years after it was released in the cinema it is then aired onto free to air TV
Simultaneous release: A simultaneous release is when a movie is made available on many forms of media such as cinema the internet VoD and TV all at the same time or with very little difference in timing. This type of release bears some advantages the first is the consumer can choose the medium to view the film which suits their needs and the second is production studios only have to run one marketing campaign for all releases, however a major disadvantage is that such methods are seen as developmental which means they do not receive major investment
Straight to video release: A straight to video release is in other words films that are released on either DVD or Blu-Ray this release takes place when a movie is only released for home entertainment without being released in the cinema.
Internet release: this takes place when a film is released on the internet ready to download or stream by internet users this is the latest type of release, it is quite popular however still in development,

How a movie is given recognition:The ways in which a movie is made popular or given promotion before actual release are; film distributors usually release a film with a launch party, press releases, interviews with the press, posters in public, trailers (on TV,internet) and finally press preview screenings
